NUTS or FRUITCAKES  ?

A certain person, who I will call "Griff Ruby" (because that is his real name) seems to think that he is the Chief Executive of the Roman Catholic Church - at least, he appears to write and act in that way, and who is to say that he does not have grander pretensions?1

This man operated a website at http://www.the-grid.net/the-pope/ and contentedly revelled in the nick-name, "the-grid".2

Recently he presumptuously re-named his website, giving it the URL: http://www.the-pope.com

His e-mail address is now ubipetrus@earthlink.net

In response to the following file:  ENEMIES OF THE FAITH (which was my response to his of the same name), said "Griff" assigned false initials to some of the persons3 he originally accused as being "enemies", and of them wrote4

  1. "They all fell into a trap, and the trap is always the same basic one, namely sin...unto apostasy." (This is no mistake, for he repeats the word "apostasy" three more times. Clearly, he is ignorant of the meaning of the word!!!)

  2. They are "...reprobate sinners, deliberate liars and decievers (sic), and clearly of bad faith and acting in bad faith and with culpable dishonesty..."

  3. He "knows" this because: "God has given me insight into their souls...", he wrote.

  4. Of one, he says: "Blinded by his own dark and secret passions and desires he could not see the forest for the trees and never could...(he) made one fatal mistake which cost him his soul. He mistaked (sic) the present Vatican institution for the Catholic Church and its leader for a true and good pope in every sense of the word."

    That's odd! In the paragraph immediately prior to that in which he says this person could NEVER see the forest for the trees, he wrote:
    "Many of his articles were quite insightful, and the perceptions conveyed were well expressed. His criticisms were seasoned, mature, and tactfully but clearly presented." And then he says: "...he could not see the forest for the trees and never could." Very odd!

    Even more odd is his declaration that one of his "enemies" made a mistake "which cost him his soul". The Church does not even say that Judas' mistake "cost him his soul" - that is, that he is in hell.

  5. "Out of lazyness, spiritual darkness, or misinformation, many equate the present Vatican institution with that visible Church."

  6. And how about this one: "Doubtless, someone, perhaps during his visit to Rome, simply pressed the issue and browbeat him into accepting it all." "Doubtless...perhaps!!!" This is simply another "Griff" gaff.

  7. "The Vatican organization lacks all the requirements for visibility."

  8. "...the present Vatican institution itself is the 'schismatic parallel Church'..."

  9. "The real Catholic Church...(is) plainly visible...once one knows where to look." ("Plainly visible...once one knows where to look"? <yawn>)

  10. etc., etc., etc., blah, blah, blah.

And, of course, while the Vatican Institution is NOT the "real" Catholic Church (according to "Griff"), if one would only look to "The Bab" of pan-traditionalists (e-mail address: ubipetrus@earthlink.net), one just might be able to see where it truly is! I repeat, "Griff" knows these things because he claims, "God has given me insight into their souls..."

In another place5 this fellow writes a frightful letter to the Editor of a journal published online by the Franciscan Friars of Mary Immaculate.6 In addition to lamblasting Fr David-Ladislaus Przedwiecki, O.F.M. (he calls him "Fr.") as a calumniator...(who) displayed either a total lack of any priestly formation at all...", our Griff wrote the following gems of wisdom for the world:

"...the post-Conciliarists...think of the Church as a shapeless pile of mud which they can shape into any mud-pie of their liking, and they have done so with John Paul II's blessing...Fr. Cekada...knows fully well that the Church is a growing organism which expands and changes over time, else he would be celebrating Mass in Hebrew instead of Latin."
Comment by F.J.L.: It appears that Griff believes that Jesus said Mass using the Hebrew language - not the vernacular Aramaic.

And,
"When Pope Celestine V resigned, he relinquished the See and the Charism of Infallibility, but gained sainthood by having the humility to recognize that he was not equal to the task of being pope and therefore resigning."
Comment by F.J.L.: Oh boy! Goodie! I recognize that I am not equal to the task of being pope and therefore I will not stand for the position when Pope John Paul II dies. Will that qualify me for sainthood?

And again, at the commencement of his "My Life And The Eucharist" file he wrote:
"In the course of my life, and my various conversion experiences my understanding of Christ's words has deepened in many ways. On the night of His betrayal, he took a piece of bread in His hands and said: 'For this is the Chalice of my Blood of the new and eternal testament, the mystery of faith, which shall be shed for you and for many unto the remission of sins.' "
Comment by F.J.L.: Sorry, Griff, but no He didn't say that phrase as written, nor in those words as written, nor in the language you claim for Him to have spoken!
Here are some explanations:
  1. The Catechism of The Council Of Trent7 does give an approximately similar translation in the English language. It also provides an "Explanation Of The Form Used In The Consecration Of The Wine"8 in which they say of "mystery of faith" that "The words mystery of faith, which are subjoined..."; and earlier9 we are told that: "Of these words the greater part are taken from Scripture; but some have been preserved from Apostolic tradition." The Evangelists and St Paul record the words in different ways, and the Church later added a portion.

  2. As to the language in which Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke - it certainly was not in English, but it WAS in the vernacular of His time and location.
    "ARAMAIC The Semetic language of Babylonia and of Syria, where it was superseded after the Moslem conquest by Arabic. From the time of the captivity in Babylon Palestinian Aramaic began to be spoken by the Jews instead of Hebrew, and was the language of Palestine at the time of Our Lord's life on earth and consequently was spoken by Him. Such words in the N.T., as abba, talitha cumi, eloi lamma sabacthani are Aramaic. The ancient Syriac, which is the liturgical language of the Syrian rites, is a dialect of Aramaic, so that Christians of these rites hear the words of our Lord in his own native tongue."

  3. "All of these liturgies were celebrated in Greek. However, there were liturgies in other languages as well. Among these were the Masses celebrated in Palestine and Syria which used Aramaic, or, more precisely, Syriac. This language is still used in some of the Eastern Churches!"   4. "The Mass had been in Latin since probably about the second century A.D. At the beginning most Christians worshipped in Greek because that's what they spoke and that's what the New Testament (and the Old Testament translation most of them used) was written in."

So, unfortunately, Griff cannot be relied upon in relation to the "depth" of knowledge in this matter either!

    Fr. Przedwiecki, O.F.M. had written "In Defense Of The Pope: Part 1", Winter 1995, and Part II in Spring 1996. In the Author's Note he included the following:
    "...We must clothe them (the "Traditionalists") with the proper attire of terminology which aptly suits their misdeeds and their unjust, calumnious, sometimes bitter and acidic criticisms of the Vicar of Christ on earth. They are. in fact, false prophets who are anti-papist, anti-conciliar (ergo anti-Church) and must be identified for what they, in fact, write nothing positive about the Pope and treat the Vicar of Christ with utmost disrespect."
